docSense Showcases EBPP Solution
at
Financial Communications Forum
Internet Billing Capability is Easy to Implement, Meshes
Seamlessly with Existing Paper-based Billing Operations

STAMFORD, CT (March 20, 2000) -- Pitney Bowes docSense (NYSE:PBI), will demonstrate two key elements of its full range of professional services and software solutions for electronic billing, payment and statement applications at the Financial Communications Forum (FCF), March 19-21, in Cambridge, MA.

"docSense serves the needs of large companies migrating their current paper-based billing and statement processes to the Web or other delivery channels," says Karl Schumacher, President of docSense.

"docSense has the enabling technologies, the full range of products and services, and the proven knowledge, partners and expertise to help businesses link their paper-based legacy applications—for business to business and business to consumer—via the Internet, Intranets or other forms of electronic distribution," says Schumacher.

"We understand the premium that businesses place on customer relationships," he says, "and we simplify the EBPP implementation process so billers can quickly provide or support electronic messaging to achieve their strategic business goals. We are the biller's advocate in the fast-changing world of e-commerce."

The Future and Benefits of EBPP
At this year's forum, docSense executives, Karl Schumacher and Kurt Konow, will participate in key conference sessions to help companies understand important strategies and techniques for producing customer documents in both printed and electronic form.

Mr. Schumacher will participate in a panel discussion (March 20 at 10:30 a.m.) on "Balancing Print and Internet Strategies." Through the discussion, companies will learn how they can easily migrate to electronic forms of distribution without disrupting existing paper-based billing processes.

Mr. Konow, Software Strategist for docSense, will participate in a "shootout" (March 21 at 3:30 p.m.) on "Customer Relationship Management." Through this discussion, companies will learn about the new software billers can use to improve the integrity of customer data, implement highly targeted one-to-one messaging and marketing campaigns, and track and measure the effectiveness of those campaigns.

Versatile EBPP Solutions
Also highlighted at this year's FCF will be demonstrations of docSense's digital document deliveryTM software system and StreamWeaver® print stream management software.

docSense digital document delivery facilitates the EBPP functions of enrollment, data extraction, presentment, payment, remittance posting and reporting and has been proven successful in unrestricted commercial use.

StreamWeaver is a software solution that splits the print stream for processing into either print or electronic form, allowing companies to customize critical message presentment to their customers.

docSense digital document delivery is especially attractive because it can be implemented in a variety of forms and easily accommodates both pay and no-pay applications, according to Schumacher.

"Companies can implement docSense digital document delivery technology using a traditional 'turn key' model, or they can minimize upfront capital costs by implementing the technology using a service bureau format. Using docSense digital document delivery within a service bureau format also enables companies to offer an electronic billing option quickly and at a fraction of the ongoing unit cost of processing traditional, paper-based mail."

docSense can also extract key data from traditional paper-based billing processes and transmit it to bill payment consolidators for eventual presentment to customers.

And for companies that distribute statements only—such as trade confirmations from brokerage firms or statements confirming investments in 40l(k) plans or mutual funds—docSense can implement electronic delivery technology without a payment capability.
