STAMFORD,
CT March 7, 2000 -- Karl Schumacher has
been named President of docSense, a new stand-alone
business of Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE:PBI). docSense
offers professional services and software solutions
for Internet billing, payment and statement applications
for the business-to-consumer, business-to-business,
and internal messaging markets.
Previously,
Mr. Schumacher was Vice President and General Manager
of the Document Factory Solutions group of Pitney
Bowes Inc. and pioneered the firm's highly successful
host-to-post strategy for global 2000 companies
as well as its Digital Document DeliveryTM
(D3) capability.
As
President of docSense, Mr. Schumacher will now direct
a new business initiative that is focused exclusively
on migrating high volume billers from hard copy
statement processing to web-based and other delivery
channels. The business will serve as the "biller's
advocate in this newly emerging and fast moving
area of e-commerce," says Mr. Schumacher.
Fast
implementation, minimum disruption
"docSense will enable businesses to implement the
full range of Internet billing alternatives—and
capture the immense benefits of faster delivery,
lower cost processing, and more effective one-to-one
messaging—in parallel with their current paper-based
billing operations," he continues.
"Our
strategic partnership agreements with billing consolidators
and consumer service providers allow billers to
manage only one vendor relationship and still provide
consumers with a rich array of delivery and payment
options," he says.
"Web
bill presentment and payment is a widely recognized
pillar for e-business initiatives within an enterprise,"
adds Murray Reichenstein, Vice President of Ecommerce
for Pitney Bowes.
"Paper-based
documents drive receivables and regulatory compliance,
which are often seen as back-office concerns," he
explains. "Digital presentment accomplishes that
too, but is also a front-end, interactive gateway
to the goods and services of an enterprise. docSense
offers all the pieces to help drive a well-integrated
e-commerce offering within a business including
the ability to interface to Customer Relationship
Management and Enterprise Resource Planning systems."
Mr.
Schumacher has held key positions in strategic planning,
business development and product management. He
has directed the acquisition and integration of
software companies and software-based products,
and has generated ten patents in his tenure with
Pitney Bowes. He holds an MBA degree from the University
