STAMFORD,
Conn. February 19, 2002 -- Pitney Bowes Inc.
(NYSE:PBI) today announced that PostagebyPhone.com's
electronic statement presentment (ESP) platform has
processed more than 20 million electronic customer statements.
The ESP platform, built by Pitney Bowes docSense, can
deliver billing statements in either electronic or physical
format according to the individual customer's preference.
In 2001, PostagebyPhone processed more than $ $14 billion
in postage payments worldwide. The company introduced
its ESP system in August 2000 and processes approximately
1 million electronic statements each month. By offering
instant access to their account, including past statements
that date back as far as 20 months, users can better
analyze and manage their postage expense.
The new ESP technology allows customers to view account
status and deposit postage funds into their interest-bearing
Pitney Bowes Reserve Account online. In addition, PostagebyPhone.com
is piloting a program where customers can "pay" their
Purchase Power bill online, which was presented using
docSense, making the process a much more customer-centric
process.
"We implemented docSense's Digital Document Delivery
solution to best serve our customers and we are very
pleased with its success," said Kathleen Bishop, vice
